Class Details | Trampoline

Trampoline gymnasts perform skills on a trampoline somewhat larger than the trampolines you will find in the back yards of many New Zealand homes.

When competing the athletes perform a series of 10 movements including forward and backwards somersaults. The competitors are not permitted to have extra bounces between the movements and if during the exercise they touch the safety padding the routine is considered finished at that point.

The top athletes in New Zealand are performing triple twists and somersaults so initiating high bounce is important. Training and competition venues must have a minimum ceiling height of 8m from the floor.

To be successful in this sport the athletes need good spatial awareness and excellent body lines.

Trampolinists are judged on body form, making up 75% of the mark, and difficulty adding potentially another 25%.For safety reasons there are 4 spotters who stand at each corner of the trampoline.

During competitions there is a synchronised event where two trampolinists perform identical routines. The synchronisation of the routine is the most important aspect to be assessed by the judging panel.

Doublemini is also competed at competitions. The athletes will bounce 2 or 3 times on the Doublemini trampoline, performing 2 movements to a secure landing on the mat at the end of the apparatus. If an athlete makes it to finals they may have to perform 4 passes (routines on the Doublemini) with each of these passes being different.
