Artistic Gymnastics
David Colvin
David Colvin has an exceptional talent in men’s gymnastics which he brings to New Zealand. He has an international record of success over the last decade and extensive knowledge of current gymnastic trends. The United Kingdom has in recent years become one of the powerhouse’s of men’s gymnastics and David has competed and trained with their top coaches and gymnasts for many years.
David has also competed in gymnastics as recently as 2009, demonstrating that he holds the most up to date knowledge of international techniques and trends.
David Colvin’s achievements include:
A member of the British National Squad, representing the UK in international competitions for 10 years
Selected to represent Great Britain at the 2003 World Championships
Selected to the Olympic Training Squad for the 2004 Olympic Games
Awarded the prestigious “Master Gymnast” award by British Gymnastics for his exceptional results, dedication and service to gymnastics
Studying gymnastics and coaching under some of the top coaches in Great Britain
Angela Meier
Angela is Olympia's senior coach to the intermediate and senior steps Womens Artistic Gymnastics programme. Angela's senior gymnasts have had podium all around and apparatus placings at the Aloha Gymnastics Festival in Hawaii in both 2011 and 2012 as New Zealand representatives. Angela currently coaches WAG Steps 5-10 and also has the role of Olympia's Artistic Code Manager as well as holding a Level 2 WAG Judging qualification. Rhythmic Gymnastics
Galina Safronova
Galina has been coaching for 30 years, she has a Bachelor of Physical Ed and in addition holds the highest qualification level possible in Russia in rhythmic gymnastics a "Master of Sport".
Some of her recent successful gymnasts include...
• Daria Shkurikhina, member of the Russian Group who won the Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2007 World Championships
• Diana Makhanova, Junior Champion at the Tabea Cup, Halle, Germany 28 - 30 March 2008
• Maria Frencel*, member of the Russian Junior Group who won the European Championships in 2001
Galina is also a Brevet judge. She has come to NZ because she is enthusiastic about making an impact in a new country, she is really keen to pass on her knowledge and experience and determined to help us strategise to raise the standard in NZ. She is really excited about the potential for success that she sees here and wants to make the most of it.
Kathryn Holdsworth (nee Hughes)
Kathryn is a level 2 Qualified coach who was previously a top performing rhythmic gymnast representing New Zealand at Worlds from 1986 - 1992. During this time she won the Australian Nationals and also finished 5th overall at the Seiko Cup behind the gymnasts from Russia , Bulgaria and the other dominant countries.
Trampolining
James Darroch
James is currently working with our Development Squad, Age Group and International Trampoline Members. James is a Senior International athlete who has given up his time to cover the coaching of our squads, while the Club seeks a new Senior Trampoline Coach. James has represented New Zealand at Australian National championships as well as Indo Pacific Championships and has aspirations to represent New Zealand at the World Championships in the future. |
